Bring the water to a simmer (180 degrees Fahrenheit / 80 degrees Celsius) for 10 minutes before using which will to activate the sealing compound. Once sealed, a lid cannot be reused to create a vacuum seal again, although it may serve as a temporary cover for short-term storage.
