Testing the pH of a hydroponic nutrient solution or liquid soil fertilizer is often overlooked. This is one of the most common garden mistakes. You should check the pH of your hydroponics solution daily, and always check the pH after adding or removing any solution. Soil pH should be checked weekly, and the pH of any liquid fertilizers or supplements checked before adding to the soil.
A digital pH meter is strongly recommended over the older “paper strip” type pH testers. Digital pH meters are usually 10-100 times more accurate than paper strips!
The importance of pH testing can’t be overstated, especially in hydroponics systems.
